The Primer 6–8 learning model

As students move into middle school, they take greater ownership of their learning while continuing to build strong academic foundations. The 6–8 learning model combines rigorous academics, independent learning, and hands-on experiences that help students develop the knowledge and skills they'll use in high school and beyond. Here's what a typical day looks like for our middle school students.

Students deepen their literacy skills through reading, writing, discussion, and independent practice before strengthening their mathematical thinking during Math Class and Math Lab. Each afternoon, students participate in two Pursuits blocks where they explore real-world topics, collaborate with peers, and apply what they're learning in meaningful ways. Throughout the day, Opening Circle, lunch, recess, and Closing Circle help students build community, reflect on their learning, and develop the independence and confidence needed for future success.

Every part of the day is intentionally designed to help students strengthen critical thinking, build independence, and prepare for success in high school, college, and beyond.
