Meet Lisandra Gonzalez Augustine

Every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable of achieving great things. That's the belief that guides Lisandra Gonzalez Augustine, Homestead Campus Leader and K–2 Primer Leader, as she works to create a school community where students feel confident, connected, and excited to learn each day. With more than 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, and school leader, Lisandra has dedicated her career to helping young learners build strong academic foundations while developing the confidence and resilience to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Lisandra was drawn to Primer because its mission closely reflects her own philosophy of education.
"What brought me to Primer was the opportunity to be part of a school community that takes children seriously, honors the whole child, and believes in creating meaningful learning experiences for every student."
Throughout her career, she's served as a K–5 classroom teacher, a K–2 reading and writing academic coach, and a school leader. Those experiences reinforced her belief that when students are known, supported, and challenged, they grow not only academically but also as confident, curious individuals.
Her passion for supporting students is deeply personal. After moving to the United States from Cuba at eight years old, Lisandra experienced firsthand the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a new environment. Those experiences taught her the importance of patience, encouragement, and having educators who believe in every child's potential. Today, she is especially passionate about early literacy and loves watching students discover the confidence that comes when a new skill finally clicks. She hopes every student leaves Primer believing in themselves as learners, knowing their ideas matter, and understanding that perseverance and support can help them accomplish difficult things.
This school year is especially meaningful because her five-year-old son, Moses, will also join the Primer community. His journey with speech development and early literacy has strengthened her commitment to creating classrooms where every child receives the support they need to succeed. Outside of school, Lisandra enjoys staying active and practicing mindfulness, often incorporating movement, breathing exercises, and other mindful routines into the classroom to help students feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. Whether she's leading the Homestead campus or working with young learners each day, Lisandra is passionate about creating a school where every child feels known, supported, and inspired to discover what they're capable of.
