Meet Kaya Oliver

Learning is most meaningful when students have the opportunity to explore, create, and apply what they're discovering to the world around them. That's the philosophy that inspires Kaya Oliver, 6–8 Primer Leader at Primer Tampa. With experience teaching elementary math and science as well as middle school culinary arts, Kaya enjoys creating engaging learning experiences that spark curiosity while helping students develop the confidence and skills they'll use far beyond the classroom.

Kaya joined Primer because of its innovative approach to education and its emphasis on active, student-centered learning. "I was drawn to Primer because it provides the opportunity to work with students in a hands-on, engaging way rather than relying solely on traditional textbooks and lesson plans." She loves designing meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to think creatively, solve real-world problems, and apply new skills in authentic ways. For Kaya, education is most powerful when students aren't just learning information—they're actively putting it into practice.

One of Kaya's favorite parts of teaching is watching students grow throughout the school year. She enjoys seeing them build confidence, discover their strengths, and gradually take ownership of their learning. Whether it's mastering a difficult concept, trying something new, or finding the courage to share an idea, she believes every step forward is worth celebrating. Creating a classroom where students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow is what makes teaching so meaningful to her. She hopes every student leaves her classroom with more than academic knowledge. Her goal is for students to believe in themselves, recognize their potential, and know they are capable of overcoming challenges. By encouraging collaboration, critical thinking, and curiosity, Kaya helps students develop skills that will benefit them throughout school and beyond. Most importantly, she wants students to know their voices matter and that they have the ability to shape their own future through perseverance, creativity, and a willingness to keep learning.

Outside the classroom, Kaya has a passion for music and enjoys playing several instruments, including the clarinet, bassoon, and trombone. Always eager to learn something new, she's currently looking forward to adding piano to her growing list of musical talents. Whether she's guiding students through a project, celebrating their progress, or encouraging them to think in new ways, Kaya is passionate about helping every learner discover the confidence, curiosity, and resilience they need to thrive.
